Since 2007 different groups of volunteers and students from all over America have come to practice their summer of service at BEAM Africa in Nellmapius south of Mamelodi, Gauteng, South Africa. During 2008 Louis and Erika Lingenfelder, founders of BEAM Africa Network, felt prompted to make housing facilities available for the volunteers. They did not know how to go about it as no suitable property nor finances were available at the time. November that year, Louis was prompted by the Holy Spirit to talk to the owner of a very costly property. He knew this property was beyond their reach due to its value. Louis did, however, obey this small voice and was told that the property had been repossesed by the bank. They made an offer and, miraculously, exactly eleven months later, the property was transferred and renovations could be started.
BEAM House is available at a low rate to all who wish to make a difference while in South Africa. Both local and overseas groups are welcome. Finances generated from the use of this this facility forms part of the fundraising for BEAM Africa's ministry in Nellmapius.
It has three rooms with en-suite bath rooms. There are two dormitories with their own bathrooms. Each can sleep at least twelve people. This is a home away from home, situated in a peaceful garden amongst beautiful old trees. BEAM House lies to the northeast of Pretoria in Kameeldrift, about twenty minutes' drive from town.
As funding becomes available, the facility will be expanded.
